Note : On the second picture; Mehmet is carrying a placard, which says "Mehmet Barisi seviyor - Mehmet loves peace". Baris means peace, but is also a widespread male name. The gay/lesbian movement in Turkey does use this slogan quite often.

Mehmet Tarhan, 9 Nisan Cumartesi 2005 tarihinde, elleri kelepçeli bir vaziyette ve yanında jandarmalarlara beraber Sivas aktarmalı olarak Tokat'a götürülürken,
20 kadar antimilitarist ve anarşist; Mehmet'i yalnız bırakmadık. İzmir otogarına gidip tüm otobüslere tek tek bakarak Mehmet'i bulduk ve şovenist asker uğurlamalarına karşılık "En büyük retçi bizim retçi!", "Barış seninle gurur duyuyor!"
sloganları ve alkışlarla, Mehmet'i şaşkın bakışlar altında otogar çıkışına kadar uğurladık. Eylem öncesi biraz sohbet etme imkanı bulduk fakat ortam gerildi ve Mehmet jandarmalar tarafından otobüse bindirildi ve henüz hareket saati gelmediği halde otobüsün kapıları askerler tarafından kapattırıldı, polis çağırıldı.. O karşılaşma anımızdan fotoğraflar aşağıda... Bizim için duygusal bir andı ve elimizde eylem sırasında çekilmiş fotoğraf ne yazık ki yok..

Mehmet Tarhan, while he is being taken to Tokat via Sivas on 9 April 2005, handcuffed and together with gendarmes next to him. We, approximately 20 antimilitarists and anarchists; did not leave him alone. We went to the main coach station, found Mehmet by looking one by one to each and every bus, and contrary to flag-wavering soldier farewells, we saw Mehmet off under confused looks until the station exit with slogans as "the best objector is our objector!"(in contrast to the popular "the best soldier is our soldier"), "peace is proud of you" (instead of "this nation is proud of you") and applause. Before the action, we had the chance to chat a little with Mehmet, but than the atmosphere intensified, he was put into the bus and although it wasn't yet the departure time, bus doors had been closed and police was called. Photos from the moments of our confrontation are below. It was an emotional time for us and therefore we unfortunately missed to take photos during the action.
